NQT summer seminars

ATL is the leading education union for students and newly qualified teachers/probationers across the UK. And we’re proving it again in 2008 by running our free NQ summer seminars to help prepare you with tips and advice so you have the confidence to enter the classroom.
Whilst new teachers and lecturers are far more prepared for going into the classroom than ever before, ATL knows that entering the profession is a huge challenge and we want to make sure you’re as prepared as you can be. We understand that dealing with the pressures of your induction year, concerns about your performance, pressure to be seen as an effective teacher and control of your class are areas that need to be addressed.
ATL’s summer seminars do just this! Topics cover:
Your induction year: this session is designed to help you understand the induction process, rights and responsibilities of all those involved to help you make your induction year work for you. ATL knows that good induction provides a secure foundation for newly qualifieds to be effective, achieve your potential and provides a foundation for future continuing professional development.
Voice care: One in ten newly qualifieds will suffer voice problems during their first year of teaching and 37% of teachers and lecturers have visited their GP with voice problems during their careers. This is an occupational hazard and together we can minimise the risks of experiencing this common problem.
Managing behaviour: this session will give you an understanding of legislation, your responsibilities and rights along with some practical tips to deal with higher level behaviour issues in the classroom. It also advises you on when and how you should get involved in physical behaviour issues.
Edge Hill University: colleagues from Edge Hill University will be exploring the learning opportunities available to newly qualified members free of charge, with a growing range of bespoke modules and a CEDP module specifically designed for newly qualified members to help you gain masters level credits.
ATL Future forum: find out from ATL Future forum members how they became more involved with ATL their union and the opportunities to go to the annual Conference, network with other ATL members, open up new opportunities for developing skills and influence education policy.
Places are filling up fast but we still have vacancies in Belfast, Bristol, Cardiff, Leeds and Newcastle. To find out more, call 020 7782 1599 or email organise@atl.org.uk.
